Encaustic Workshops
with Heidi Franscioni in Paso Robles

Join Heidi Franscioni in a fun, inspiring, and supportive environment for one of her awesome workshops! Whether you are a painter or work in photography, collage, or sculpture, you will love to add the unique Encaustic magic to your work! No experience is needed. You only need to bring your creative self!

Once the ancient medium of the Greeks 2500 years ago, Encaustic Painting has experienced huge popularity in the contemporary art community. Hot molten beeswax, pigments, and tree resin make up your palette as you create luminous texture with an infinite number of techniques!

All Workshops and classes take place in Heidi's studio at Studios on the Park in downtown Paso Robles.

In this 2 Day workshop, Heidi will impart lots and lots of encaustic techniques as well as share her unique approach to the art of encaustic painting.   This is by far the best value, because lots of practical information is provided for a nominal fee.  (See workshop feedback given by former attendees)

Heidi will encourage students to learn & experiment with a vast variety of encaustic techniques, creating sample boards and "masterpieces" which they will take home for future reference.

Heidi has written a detailed encaustic handbook which is only provided in the 2 day workshop. It contains technical info, thorough supplier and material lists, safety precautions, procedures, and a "sticker approach" to note taking which she developed. This handbook enables the student to focus on painting and having fun, instead of taking notes!

As well as completing 4-10 pieces of art, students will walk away with all the knowledge needed to embark on their encaustic journey! This workshop also includes 1 hour of post workshop phone/email support as students begin working independently in their own studios at home.

Attendance is limited to only 4 students for plenty of individualized attention & work space. All students will work with a personal hot plate so they don't have to share pigment palettes.

Students may bring personal materials such as photography, paintings, collage materials, carving implements, and wooden supports. These materials however will only supplement supplies that will already be provided.

*Continuing students who have already taken Heidi's 2 day workshop are encouraged to jump in again and again at a reduced cost of $200.  Continuing students are encouraged to work more independently with Heidi, hone in their skills, brush up on techniques that they didn't have time to absorb the first time around, or simply take advantage of the encaustic studio and materials.

Workshop Content to include:
History of Encaustic Painting, Review of basic materials, General Overview of the encaustic process, Encaustic Safety for people and art
Lots of demos and hands on experience covering: fusing, painting, carving, incising, stencils, oil sticks, collage, photo underlays, & photo transfers
   Plus lots of studio time!
Also included:  All materials, coffee, tea, snacks, Handbook, and 1 hour of post workshop support

Dip your toes into beeswax during this fun Introductory Encaustic Workshop! If you have been curious about trying this wonderful medium but were not ready to jump into Heidi's complete 2 day workshop, then this is the classes for you! While trying your hand at a variety of specified techniques, you will complete a work of art on a wooden panel.

Workshop content to include: a review of encaustic materials, equipment, safety, fusing techniques, creating encaustic transparency and texture with hot molten beeswax.  No prior experience is needed!  All materials are included.

PARENTS PLEASE MAKE NOTE:  Although safety is always monitored, your child should already have basic skills and responsibility abilities with sharp carving implements and hot cooking surfaces.  If your child is able to cut vegetables with a sharp knife and make pancakes on a griddle without harming themselves, then they will be fine in this workshop.  If not, then this is probably not the best environment for them.  Give Heidi a call at 805-712-0612 with any questions you may have.  Feel free to stop by my studio with your child so we can decide together if this is the right fit for their development level.
